Women’s Abdominal Massage

Women’s Abdominal Massage, (WAM), is a collection of traditional healing techniques used to address conditions affecting the reproductive organs, the digestive system and emotional health.

WAM focuses on releasing tension in the abdomen, pelvis and lower back, enabling the body to return to its natural state of balance.

Muscles and ligaments that are over-contracted can pull bones and organs out of place, causing pain in the body. Women’s Abdominal Massage (WAM) is a gentle, external massage that strengthens supporting muscles and ligaments and aids internal organs to regain their correct positions for optimum health and well-being, bringing healing to women on both physical and emotional levels.

WAM can help with the following issues:

Painful menstrual cycles
Heavy or scanty periods
Irregular menstrual cycles and ovulation
Endometriosis
Ovarian cysts
Uterine fibroids
Abnormal uterine bleeding
Displaced or prolapsed uterus, bladder and bowel.
Bladder or yeast infections
Digestive issues
Perimenopause, menopause symptoms
Fertility issues
Miscarriages
Pregnancy and postnatal health
Emotional and sexual trauma

What my clients say

“My first round of Women’s Abdominal Massage Therapy was with Ruth in November. I cannot believe the difference.

For decades I have lived with heavy, prolonged periods and anaemia. Cramping and exhaustion. Sleeping through days of bleeding.

The contract is unrecognisable to me in a short time. Lighter periods, by far, minimal short term pain,( bearable) and a healthy balance of energy.”

Benefits of WAM

Enhanced Circulation: WAM increases circulation to key reproductive organs in the pelvis and this boost promotes hormonal balance, crucial for reproductive health.

Realignment of the Uterus: Through gentle massage, WAM can help reposition a misaligned uterus. This realignment not only improves circulation but also enhances lymphatic drainage, nervous system function, and the flow of Qi energy.

Detoxification: WAM aids in eliminating toxic build-up within congested circulatory systems, effectively cleansing the body. It’s a natural detoxifier, supporting overall well-being.

Scar Tissue Breakdown: This technique can break down scar tissue, improving mobility and vitality in the abdominal area.

Digestive Support: By enhancing digestive efficiency, WAM helps prevent toxic build-up in the body, promoting optimal nutrient absorption and efficient elimination. A healthier digestive system boosts overall immunity.

Emotional Connection: WAM provides a unique opportunity for women to reconnect with their womb space emotionally and spiritually. It fosters a deeper sense of connection and awareness, empowering women in their reproductive health journey.

Yoni Steaming

Yoni steaming, or vaginal steaming as it’s sometimes called, is a self care practice where you sit over a bowl of steaming herbs. Let me say at this point, that yoni steaming is in no way about cleansing in the hygiene sense of the word, your vagina does this perfectly and naturally without the need of douches or detergents. When I talk about the cleansing actions of yoni steaming, I am referring to the herbal actions on the body’s tissues and the energetic cleansing of the practice.

The use of heat in the yoni steaming is an important factor here. The uterus is supported in the pelvis by 6 pairs of ligaments and muscles, which can become sluggish, over stretched or over contracted as a result of falls or injury to the sacrum, pregnancy, birth, poor postnatal care, or bad posture.

When the womb is misaligned, she can put pressure on the bladder, bowel, lymph and circulatory systems, causing congestion and associated problems. Heat attracts blood flow to any areas where it is applied. The increased blood flow to the yoni brings nutrients and oxygen to feed and nourish the tissues, and carry away toxins.

In some traditions, like in Eritrea, Ethiopia and Sudan, they use smoke instead of steam, and it is used as part of their traditions for preparing a woman for married life.

Women throughout history have used Yoni Steaming to:

Speed healing and tone the reproductive system after birth.

Significantly reduce pain, bloating and exhaustion associated with menstruation.

Decrease menstrual flow as well as reduce dark purple or brown blood at the onset or end of menses.

Regulate irregular or absent menstrual cycles.

Increase fertility, increase cervical nectar, help relax the vaginal canal and cervix, and nourish and tone the uterine lining.

Reduce uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, uterine weakness, uterine prolapse & endometriosis.

Assist with the repair of a vaginal tear, episiotomy, or C-section scar.

Assist with the healing of haemorrhoids.

Relieve chronic vaginal/yeast infections, and works to maintain healthy odour.

Ease symptoms of menopause including dryness or pain during intercourse.

Detoxify the womb and remove toxins from the body.

Release stored emotions and tap into the energy that is our creative potential.

Yoni steaming ceremonies are available with or without abdominal massage or as part of the sacred wrapping ceremony.

The Red Shed - A Women's Retreat Space

Welcome to The Red Shed, a sanctuary in the North East of England, a purpose built space with the needs of Women’s health and well being at its heart.

The Red Shed first opened its doors in the Spring of 2019, and is located in the small village of Blackhall Mill, 7 miles south west of Newcastle upon Tyne. Surrounded by beautiful open meadows, Milkwell Burn woods and the river Derwent, it makes for a peaceful retreat space.

The Red Shed is inspired by The Red Tent movement, and the need for permanent spaces for women and girls to gather and share their stories, to support one another and find sisterhood.

The Red Shed has space to sit 6-8 women comfortably in a circle and benefits from a wood powered sauna and composting loo. The Red Shed is entirely Offgrid!
